Pretty Regency empire style dress with short sleeves and an adjustable neck. This simple cotton Regency gown has an adjustable neckline. Great for your Regency or Jane Austen events.
Regency fashion was unlike any fashion seen before for women. The style of this era depended more on the natural shape of the body and less on boned corsets and hoops. The silhouette of the Regency era was slender and the waist very high from the natural waist. This produced a rather slender effect of a woman's body. The fashion was considered quite scandelous when it first came out. The fashion range is from 1795-1820's, late 1820's.
This is my second dress in the Regency series. Again, a very basic style without many frills but packed with style. Very slenderizing style and will look good on most body shapes.
This is a basic empire waist dress made from a quilters cotton in any color you desire. This dress is completely lined, with the exception of the sleeve. Lining the short sleeves would have produced a lot of bulk where you don't want bulk.
It has a raised waistline, empire waist, which is all but common for the period. The neckline and raised waist is gathered with a ribbon drawstring. You can adjust the fit of the bodice nicely this way and direct the gathers where you like them.
The skirt falls gracefully from the bodice. The front lays more flatly and it is gathered in the back giving it a slight train. There is a lovely satin ribbon around the empire waist in any color you would like giving the dress a wonderful burst of color.
The sleeves are gathered at the shoulder and are short falling to about the elbow (just above). There is a small gathered puff at the top and then it falls straight. The puff is produced with a very small elastic around them. This can be left off and I can put a drawstring in there for you or the entire puff can be left off for a more straight sleeve. Since elastic is not "period correct" I offer the other 2 options for those of you that prefer staying within the guidelines of the era.
The dress is lined (bodice and skirt) with a cotton muslin or a cotton broadcloth that will match in color to the outside dress. Skirt is french seamed inside for neatness and there is some hand sewing at the bodice waist.
This is a custom made dress in your size and color choice. Dress will be made from either a solid or floral cotton fabric. Give me an idea of your color preference and we can go from there. The ribbon color will match the dress color but will be your choice. I will need the following measurements to complete your dress:
Back length-from neck to waist measurement
Length- measurement from shoulder to hem
This is a custom made dress and I will need about 10-14 days after you order to complete your dress and ship to you. If you have any questions, please email me and I will happily get back with you.
This pictures are taken on a dress mannequin and does not have period correct undergarments on. For the best period correct look this gown should be worn with period undergarments on giving the gown the correct silhoutte
