Pirate waistcoat vest in linen. This is an authentic Colonial style for your Renaissance pirate wardrobe. If you are a woman playing a pirate persona, this item would also work for you.
Waistcoat or "vest" appears very definately with the reign of King Charles II around 1666 during the Restoration in Britain. The terms used for this article of clothing are interchangeable, waistcoat, vest, or weskit. With the 17th century coming to a close a man's doublet became a waistcoat with a man wearing a coat over it.
By the 18th century, a man was almost never seen without one. To be seen without his waistcoat was considered "undressed". The vests of the 1750's were worn to the mid thighs. The vests of the 1770's were a bit shorter and worn at just below the hips. By 1810 the fit became more fitted and shorter. SInce then, the vest has changed very little.
This is for a man's waistcoat circa 1770's. It goes to just at hip length in the front and is a shorter length in the back to make it easier to wear and move.
This listing is for the waistcoat/vest made from a 100% linen fabric. This is pure linen flax. It is lined with a cotton fabric in a coordinating color to the front of the vest.
There are pocket flaps but no working pockets. This keeps the price down a bit. If you would like pockets there is a additional charge of US $10.00 (5.00 each pocket). Please email me if you would like this option and I will put up a special listing with the extra fee.
Buttons up the front with 8 covered buttons. The buttons are functional on this vest. There is a tie for waist adjustment in the back.
This listing will be for a custom made linen waistcoat, 1750's length with covered buttons and working pockets with pocket flaps.
